Hi Nigeria!

August 9, 2013

Dear Family and Friends,

I hope you are well. I’ve arrived safely in Nigeria.  This first picture is outside the airport. I had a very interesting day. 20130809_160105Check out in Pointe Noire took a long time because they gave me the wrong bill. Today I flew  through Gabon, Togo, and then finally to Nigeria. A driver, Tawo, who has been assisting my colleagues for years now, was right at the airport to get me.There is usually a ton of traffic in Lagos driving back from the airport but today was a national holiday,

the day after the day after the end of ramadan (i think) so people weren’t on the road.

The second picture is of the main road in Pointe Noire, Boulevard Charles de Gaulle. Im in the middle of the book Half Of A Yellow Sun by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and so far it is fabulous.

The power just went out in the hotel, but the TV and internet stayed on. In the room, the internet is hooked up to the TV and you have to keep the TV on to use the internet. 20130809_131759I don’t really like to watch TV but at least the internet is fast. I’m going to watch Rookie Blue. For dinner tonight I had a traditional Nigerian fried fish dish and rice and salad. The sauce on the fish was full of jalapeños and pleasantly spicy. That was the only real meal I ate today because of travel.  I snapped the last picture before a security guard yelled at someone else for taking pictures! Ha. Before this, I met a guy at the airport who told me he was a seaman. Hehehe!!

Love, Annie

Thanks again for the blog. Am kind of glad I did not have dinner of the traditional fish as I am sure they would not make it without jalapeños even though it would be so good to see you in person. Mom had told me that they spoke to you and I was happy and your blog made me more elated, love you
